Strings

Soon it will be summer and the end of regular music lessons for most students. Summer time offers a wide range of exciting activities for children, teens and their parents. However it is still important to play your instrument, listen to music and learn new repertoire. For beginners, summer is the perfect time to get started. Over 100 students from across the province attended the 2007 Honey Bee Music and Dance Camp. Twenty two instructors from across the province taught and performed in Tisdale in 2007 and are returning for 2008. The Camp has daily private lessons, orchestras, ensembles and classes for students of all ages and levels. Students can try a string instrument for the first time or can continue study. Of course students can review skills that they studied during the last school year, learn new music, improve their technique, and meet new friends. Why not bring repertoire that you would like to study to your private lessons.
So let’s plan now to include music in our summer.

is offered each morning. Preschoolers have classes in music basics, dance, singing, musical theatre, crafts, plus evening concert performances and are introduced to many instruments.. Students who would like to include preschool private lessons in violin, viola or cello may register for daily private lessons.

Students in the Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced programs have morning and afternoon classes.. These programs include a daily private lesson (1/2 or 1 hour lessons), masterclasses, ensembles, three levels of orchestra, recitals, concerts. String instruction includes beginning levels up to Grade 10 and ARCT levels. Student’s daily private lessons are ½ hour or 1 hour depending on the student’s level. The program also includes daily masterclasses, ensembles, three levels of orchestra plus recitals and concerts. Practice rooms are available. Students have a chance to try something new. In addition to their string classes they can choose two additional daily classes in fiddle or another instrument or dance. Have you ever wanted to try something really different? Students have the opportunity to try out hip hop, ballroom dance, or bandura.

– A workshop offered during Honey Bee Music and Dance Camp for teenage students working at Grade 8 or more advanced levels and adults who are music teachers or are interested parents working with young string players. Honey Bee Music and Dance Camp

On behalf or our daughter, Arianna, we wanted to send a thank you letter for the great camp that you put on in August. Arianna has been playing the violin for just over two years and really wanted to attend a music camp over the summer. Through the Saskatchewan Orchestral Association, we learned about the Honey Bee Music and Dance Camp and decided that the camp offered a variety of activities for our daughter as well as an excellent opportunity to enhance her violin knowledge.

To say that Arianna had a great time would be an understatement, she has talked constantly of her week in Tisdale, the friends she met and level and variety of music she was exposed to. Immediately at the conclusion of the camp, Arianna was already talking of next year and returning to the camp.

From a parents’ stand point the camp was well organized and to see our daughter playing the best violin of her limited years of experience made us tremendously proud. As a Board member of the Moose Jaw Youth String Orchestra, I have passed along these feelings to many in our organization and hope a few more of our members will join us in Tisdale.

Again, on behalf of Arianna we wish to say thank you for a job well done and see you next year.

Thank you,
Paul, Daphne & Arianna Tonner
